I don’t understand, why is Tavis Smiley mad. Would he have gone after Hillary if she had refused this invitation. People just need to relax and stop with this ego trip. Obama made a conscious decision not to attend, so be it. Lets stop trying to divide and celebrate the fact that someone of color might be the next President. I’m sure he struggled with the decision not to attend this function but in all honesty if I was in his shoes i would probably do the same. one of the things he’s been consistant to point out is don’t look at him as a black candidate, look at him as just a candidate that could(and probably will) change the direction of this country. Oh need us forget he’s a by product of a white mother and black father(god forbid if he goes around celebrating the white side).

Tavis Smiley and many others like him, (i.e., Bob Johnson)… are basically jealous of Sen. Obama’s success. And a lot of “so-called” black leaders are upset b/c Sen. Obama has not bowed down and kissed their ring, (or their a__).

Smiley wants Sen. Obama to lose so he can continue to cry about blacks not being represented in government… How does the blacks folks that Smiley talks so much about, benefit from an Obama lost?… The only one who benefits for an Obama lost is Smiley…

Obama is not playing the old game… It’s a new day!

This is the type of the change we need… GO OBAMA!!!!

I believe it is unconscionable for Tavis Smiley to attack Barack Obama because he cannot spare the time to make it to his event. Clearly, Obama is in the make or break moment of his potential presidency. If he does not win Texas and Ohio it could mean that Clinton could take the election through Super Delegates. I am an activist and an African American. I am sorely disappointed in Tavis Smiley’s callous self promotion at the expense of this historic run. Is Mr. Smiley really that short sighted? Do the efforts, hopes and votes of millions of Americans including Black Americans really mean so little to Mr. Smiley? If Obama’s campaign got negative coverage at this crucial moment I would have expected it to come from Republicans. Instead I have to see it come from Tavis Smiley. Shame on him. If we lose Texas or Ohio it may be due in some part to Mr. Smiley.
