OBAMA DRAWS CROWD OF 75,000 IN OREGON!
A comment on the Huffington Posts says it all!
I live in Portland, and it was truly a wonderful sight yesterday. But as happens everywhere, we had our share of people blathering on about how we were all being bamboozled and we had all drunk the kool-aid.
And you know, I’m tired of that line of argument. Because the thing they’re conveniently ignoring when they say that, is that it’s really delicious kool-aid!
Seriously, it is. I mean, where is the problem with believing, for a while (as long as we can) that we might be able to come together, to reach down and find the best in ourselves and put it to work to build this country into the bright shining beacon we all grew up wanting it to become?
Why is it being bamboozled to hope that people might behave in accordance with what’s good in their hearts, instead of what’s crass and calculating and cynical?
Sure, maybe we’re wrong. Maybe not enough of us will believe and the dream will break down somewhere. But it won’t ever happen if we don’t give in to that hope at some point in our lives. If not now, when?
As a great poet said, You may say I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one.
And it was sure reassuring to see the proof of that yesterday in the massive sea of smiling faces on our waterfront.
Thank you Oregon!
