Lionsgate has signed Tyler Perry to a new three-year first-look deal that calls for the distrib to handle at least three more Perry films.

Deal was announced Wednesday by Lionsgate co-chairman and CEO Jon Feltheimer and Perry.

The agreement calls for Perry to deliver at least three additional features following “The Family That Preys,” set for release Sept. 12, and “Madea Goes to Jail,” due out Feb. 20.

Lionsgate will also continue to distribute Perry’s DVDs, and two of Perry’s senior development execs will be based at Lionsgate’s Santa Monica HQ.

Lionsgate noted that Perry’s pics have cumulatively grossed nearly $250 million at the box office and sold more than 25 million units on DVD.

Here’s another one that may be losing me. That last movie which I went to see on the 1st day it opened (as I’ve done w/all other TP movies) was a real disappointment. Especially the whole token Spanish in the movie. If he’s going to go that route at least he could’ve develophed her character a bit more. She reminded me of how White producers/directors stick a random black person in a predominantly white movie to spout off ridiculous comments. Makes you understand how Blacks developed a certain rep around the world. What I originally found endearing about his movies (a wide range of some of the black experience set to comedy) is what I fear he’s going to tamper with. He’s more than likely reached the point where he will turn away from his core audience to appeal to others. Doesn’t he remember that others alway gravitate to what we do & what we like? Oh well my guess is that one of his next movies will be about a handsome, wealthy black man who falls for a non black woman & all the angry morbidly obease black women who raised & nurtured him are going to run around calling her evil names & then at the end come to embrace her as savior of the family. Nothing wrong w/interracial but TP fans (mostly black women) relied on him for something that we just weren’t getting often enough on screen…Black family/Black love.
